Lalaloopsy Silly Hair Dolls {Review & Giveaway}

Lalaloopsy logo{This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, Michelle!}

With two girls in the house, everyone automatically assumes that it's all pink and princesses all the time.

And yes, we do have pink and we do have princesses, but that's definitely not all. Each of my daughters has a wide range of likes and dislikes (which vary by the day) and although one day they might be gung-ho for pretend play in their kitchen, the next they might be focused solely on being cowboys in the wild west.

But one thing that seem to never go out of style? Dolls. There is just something about the way that a girl and her doll have a connection and that having something to love and care for makes them feel special. Most recently, the one to bring some color and positivity into our home is from the unique line of Lalaloopsy dolls. When Silly Hair Crumbs Sugar Cookie arrived, how could we do anything but smile?

Lalaloopsy reviewMore than just modern rag dolls, the background behind the Lalaloopsy gang is simple: they magically come to life when their final stitches are sewn. Each of the ever-expanding line of characters has its own unique personality and characteristics that comes from the fabrics that were used to make them.

What I take from that is this: it's okay to be yourself.

And I love that! Lalaloopsy dolls definitely have a slightly out-of-this world look, but if they get the message across to young girls that they can be magical and fun no matter who they are and what they look like, then I'm all for it.

Having the general idea that Lalaloopsy dolls weren't small, I was surprised when Crumbs Sugar Cookie arrived and was as large as she is.

Lalaloopsy dollAlthough the packaging (which had my daughters attention immediately) was bright, colorful and perfect for gift-giving with the cute handle on the top, it did take quite a bit of maneuvering to get Crumbs Sugar Cookie completely freed from all of the restraints. Once we did, however, it was time to admire the cuteness in person.

Lalaloopsy silly hairWith her smiling mouth and shining button eyes, Crumbs Sugar Cookie's oversize head surprised us all. Handing her to Big Sister E, the first words she said were, "Oh! She's heavy!" Although that doesn't take away from the fun that my daughters have had, the unusually heavy weight of this doll did take some getting used to and does make it so that she is unable to sit up during playtime.

Her removable yellow outfit is very cute and the girls were both drawn to Crumbs Surgar Cookie's pink high-top sneakers, which fit her feet snugly but can be removed with a tug.

Lalaloopsy shoesTurning her over, we found another signature aspect of Lalaloopsy: the "Date of Last Stitch" stamp right on the bottom. With each one corresponding to a holiday, it's appropriate that Crumbs Sugar Cookie's date is December 4th, National Cookie Day.

When it came to playtime, we found that Lalaloopsy dolls really do have a rag doll quality to them and the girls enjoyed posing their arms and legs into various positions.

But the real fun of the new line of Silly Hair dolls is their bendable hair and included styling accessories. Crumbs Sugar Cookie came with a hair styling brush, four clips, and six hair beads that make it easy for any girl to become a hairdresser. Whether twisting the plastic hair into curls around the brush...

Lalaloopsy silly hair review...or decorating her pink locks with the hair beads...

Lalaloopsy hair...it is easy to end with hairstyles ranging from curly to straight to twisted to just about anything in between. We did find that the two cookie-shaped hair pieces had a tendency to pull away from their back clasp, so we ended up setting those aside.

However, both Big Sister E and Little Sister B loved all of the various things that they could do with Crumbs Sugar Cookie's hair... and then start over and do something completely different the next time!

All in all, Lalaloopsy has proven to be a lot of fun! Big Sister E has told me of the many exploits and adventures that the two of them have gone on... and the times that they go to the doctor because "Crumbs Sugar Cookie needs to have her big head measured!" always make me laugh.

Featuring a multitude of different characters (including a boy so that girls don't have to be the only ones playing with these dolls), Lalaloopy dolls are available in large and small sizes and come with a cute pet to play with - Big Sister E has been very fond of Buttontails Mouse - so that they will always have a friend.

These dolls are colorful, cheery, easy to clean (just wash them right off!) and promote the idea that it's okay to be yourself and be different, something that all little girls need to hear. Retailing for $24.95 for the traditional line and $34.95 for the Silly Hair collection, you'll find information about the dolls, their world, games, an iPhone app and much more at Lalaloopsy.com.

And, thanks to their generosity, one person will get to bring the rag doll fun to their house as well, because...
