While part of me wants to keep a tally next year to see how my own family compares (an item for my 2014 to-do list!), I really have no doubt that that number is pretty accurate. It's like the flow of dirty clothes just never stops!
So considering the amount of time that is spent on this particular household chore, doesn't it make sense that you do it in a space that is functional? After all, with products like Tide and Maytag, and a practical, well-designed space, you can get clothes clean in one wash and have more time to spend with your family and friends.
The Home Depot is your one-stop shop for finding everything you need for your laundry room, including great cleaning products, appliances, organizing, storage and decorating items.
And right now, in celebration of the current #BrilliantHEClean campaign, The Home Depot is offering a $100 gift card with the purchase of a Maytag Powerwash machine and 150 oz. of Tide!
Not sure where to start in sprucing up your laundry room? P&G has partnered with Jenny Komenda, decorator and blogger at The Little Green Notebook to help share tips on how to create a more efficient space in your laundry room.
I have to admit that I wasn't familiar with Jenny's blog before, but was instantly addicted from my very first visit! I am always in awe of crafty, DIY people that can turn a creative idea and something old into something modern, stylish and new with their bare hands... and each of Jenny's posts are so inspiring that I can't wait to see what she does next!
When it comes to redesigning and organizing your laundry room, Jenny has some great tips:
- Dealing with a dark, cave-like laundry room is a chore in and of itself! By taking off the doors on a few of your upper cabinets, you'll open up the space and create a place to store baskets. In this laundry room, we assigned baskets for every member of the house, which makes sorting a breeze!
- Why not decoupage or paint insides of cabinets for a fun pop of color? It's a guaranteed smile each and every time you reach for your detergent.
- Don't like the cabinets, floors and countertops in your laundry room? Every surface can be painted or resurfaced! For less than $30 in materials, the outdated linoleum, brick pavers and old, dark cabinets were updated in this laundry room with paint and with a concrete overlay product.
- A rolling laundry butler can be your best friend, doing triple duty with a hanging bar, a rolling basket and a drying rack. It's the perfect choice for a laundry room with limited space that hasn't been updated in a few decades.
- Don't neglect your laundry room walls! Hanging interesting art and mirrors will elevate your room and make it feel less utilitarian and more “homey”. Suddenly those 400 loads of laundry most of us will do this year might actually be enjoyable!
- Use a slab of stone or a simple piece of painted MDF on top of the washer/dryer units to create a folding station and to prevent socks from slipping in between the appliances.
In addition to seeing more photos and information about Jenny's design tips, you'll want to head over to TideAndMaytag.com to enter the Brilliant Clean sweepstakes.
One winner will be chosen at random to receive an e-design consultation by Jenny, a Maytag Washer and Dryer, a year's supply of Tide and $5,000 (ten runners up will receive a year’s supply of Tide)!
Plus, one person will be even more prepared to visit their local The Home Depot to get a kick start on their laundry room redesign, because...
One lucky person will win a $50 The Home Depot gift card!
A big thank you to P&G for providing a gift card for me as well as for one lucky giveaway winner. The opinions shared are my own and honest and if you really need to see more, click here to see how I roll.
I would redo the shelf and add new washer and dryer.
ReplyDeleteI would like to change the size desperately, but cannot.
ReplyDeleteGFC: smurfette
ReplyDeleteMy laundry room is scary! There is no ceiling, just the rafters. Also, my dryer just quit working so a new dryer would be pretty high on the priority list!
ReplyDeleteI would clean it up (since it's in a detached garage) and maybe put some shelving. Oh, and put our rolling laundry butler in there!
ReplyDeleteWe're renters, so we have to take what we get, but what I'd love to change is the position of the washer and dryer. As they're set up now, the doors open back-to-back, so it's really awkward to move stuff from the washer over both doors and into the dryer.

ReplyDeleteI would like to have more shelf space! I have a tiny laundry room.
ReplyDeleteStorage and shelves
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty lucky and for the most part like my laundry room because my dad completely made it over a few years ago for us. The one thing I wish I had was somewhere to put the things that I don't put in the dryer but there just isn't enough room for what I want.
ReplyDeleteI would like bigger with more storage space.
ReplyDeleteI would like it to be upstairs instead of down, but that is not a viable choice.

i would love to 'finish' the ceiling. right now it is beams. i would also really love to paint....thanks for such a great giveaway and awesome prizes!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to add lower storage. I'm only 5'2", so reaching the shelves above the washer & dryer is nearly impossible.
ReplyDeleteMake it bigger! Our laundry room is a tiny little closet right now... the washer and dryer barely fit in it, and there is NO storage space!
ReplyDeleteMy laundry room could be a bit bigger however what I need is a new washer & dryer. Mine are inexpensive and 15 yrs old.
ReplyDeleteBasically I would change everything... my laundry is in an unfinished basement. I hate it. chefl@swbell.net
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more storage space in my laundry room I have one small cabinet and a small shelf.
ReplyDeleteMine is really small.I need storage!
ReplyDeleteI would like to change the color of the walls and the color of my cabinets.

ReplyDeleteI would love to have a place to hang things up
ReplyDeleteThere is barely enough room to open the door with our washer and dryer in there. I would make the space where they go a little bit deeper.
ReplyDeleteI'd love more space for folding and hanging!
ReplyDeleteI would like to have room for a table to fold clothes on and I would also like more shelves.
ReplyDeleteI would love to change the size so I had room for a small space to fold and hang clothes. I would also like more storage space. The other thing it would be nice if my washer and dryer matched!
ReplyDeleteMy laundry room is so messy and what I would love to do is get it more organized with shelves. I need new shelves on the wall so I can have easy access to my clothes soap!
ReplyDeleteI'd like more shelving where I do my laundry.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have a place to hang clothes to dry:)

I don't have enough room! Theres barely room for the washer and dryer and then I have room to get between the wall and those - so if you are smaller you are fine - I don't think it is that great for the venting of the dryer either.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to have more room, where I could also fold clothes in the laundry room.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
rickpeggysmith(at)aol(dot)com
More space. I'd love it to function as a mud room and laundry room but it's too small for that.
ReplyDeleteI would like to actually have a laundry ROOM, my washer and dryer are in my half bath behind bifold doors! Would like a room with cabinets and an ironing board and laudry tub.

My current washer and dryer are older than i am, and are probably costing me more to repair than to just buy new ones >.<
ReplyDeleteThe size and location, it is in the basement with the bathroom! ;) But I would love to have more shelving in it!
ReplyDeleteActually almost everything in my laundry room needs to be changed, but mostly the color (there ISN'T any) and lack of storage. A new washer and dryer would be good....
ReplyDeleteI would love for the door to be wider - just not enough room to turn around and carry a clothes basket thru. Thanks.
ReplyDeletedefinitely more storage space.
ReplyDeleteI'd like a bar to hang clothes to dry.

ReplyDeleteI need more space in my laundry room
ReplyDeleteI could use a lot more space
ReplyDeleteJessica Cox
I would make a laundry room. My washer and dryer are in the garage.
ReplyDeleteI would most like to change the small room size and location. It is too small (~3x4) to hold everything we have in it: the washer & dryer, the dog and cat food & water bowls, the cat litter box, a hamper, a step stool and a cabinet.
ReplyDeleteThere are a couple of things I change in my laundry room. I would put in better lighting, more storage and a folding table.
ReplyDeletesflickinger at rocketmail dot com
I need a folding table and more shelf space.
ReplyDeleteI need new floors in mine.
ReplyDeletelike shelves
ReplyDeleteMake it bigger!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more shelves
ReplyDeletewould like it to be bigger and a folding table would be nice
ReplyDeleteI hate the shelving units and would definitely change those out. Also, it is silly, but my hookups are backwards so my dryer is on the left and the washer is on the right. My washer and dryer doors face the opposite direction, so it is a pain to transfer clothes from the washer to the dryer (I am constantly dropping wet clothes!).
ReplyDeleteI would like to change the dark atmosphere of the laundry room. Our laundry is in our basement where the lighting isn't the best and the floors and walls are gray.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a bigger laundry room and better lit.
ReplyDeleteI would like to have a counter in my laundry room to fold clothes on.
ReplyDeleteI would love a bigger laundry room I can't even open the door of my washing machine and the laundry room door at the same time
ReplyDeleteThere is no rack/bar to hang clothes on so I would definitely add one of those!
ReplyDeleteI need more space
ReplyDeleteI would put in a place to fold the laundry
ReplyDeleteMY laundry makes me CRY. My hubby has NOT put in the utility sink!! HOW can he not understand HOW bad I need it? And it's in the corner of a our very yucky not finished horrid basement. It does make me cry. I would love to at the very least- finish the basement a bit.
ReplyDeleteI would love more space to hang clothes as I take them out of the dryer.
ReplyDeleteCINDY B on rafflecopter
I'd like to have a counter and shelves to fold and iron.
ReplyDeleteI would like my laundry room to actually be in my apartment
ReplyDeleteI would love to change it from the garage to a laundry room. Sometimes going into the cold garage is miserable!
ReplyDeleteThe location! It's out in the detached garage, so I have to go outside, down a flight of stairs and then into the garage to get to it!
ReplyDeletesksweeps (at) earthlink (dot) net
I'd love to make it bigger in size!
ReplyDeleteI'd make more storage room
ReplyDeleteGosh, I think I would like a system that irons clothes on its own instead of the piles of shirts waiting to be ironed,
ReplyDeleteThat it was bigger and the dryer could fit next to the washer instead of on top of it. I have a hard time seeing clothes that get left in the dryer like socks even if I jump up I still can't see any left over clothes.
ReplyDeleteI would like to add more shelves.
ReplyDeleterhoneygtn at yahoo dot com
Our laundry room doesn't really have any features to speak of in the first place, so any changes would be welcomed, but especially would like to change our washer and dryer.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a huge laundry room with windows and a sink and a table with new modern appliances! Dreaming big here.
ReplyDeletesize- long but awkward!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to make it to be bigger!
ReplyDeleteI wish my laundry room was an actual laundry room, rather than in the basement.
ReplyDeleteI would actually make it into a separate room instead of being in my kitchen area.
ReplyDeleteI could use more shelving and a new washer dryer for my laundry room.
ReplyDeletewell my washer is from the 80's so I actuaLLY NEED A NEW ONE
ReplyDeleteI would love to have it out of the basement, more shelving, and more drying space
ReplyDeleteI'd want my laundry room to be MY laundry room, because right now I have to use the one in my apt complex!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to clean up and repaint my laundry room.
ReplyDeleteI would like to make it bigger! My Laundry room is like a closet. You open double doors to expose the washer and dryer and then there are 2 shelves that my Husband built for me to store the detergent and cleaning products. I would like to have an actual room with some pantry space.
ReplyDeleteI have a rather sizable laundry room but there is no organization at all. I would definately change that
ReplyDeleteOur laundry room is our downstairs storage room as well. While we have a lot of space to store things, there isn't a lot of shelving for laundry specific products and it isn't super clean since it is in the basement back room.
ReplyDeleteI would make mine bigger.
ReplyDeleteI would like to paint the walls and put good shelves up, right now I have cheap ones
ReplyDeleteI need a place to fold my laundry- there are no counter tops!
ReplyDeletei'd like to make an area to fold clothes
ReplyDeleteWasher/Dryer Set
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have a place to hang and/or lay items flat for drying.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to redo the whole laundry closet. It looks terrible, the washing machines are old, and the shelving is terrible.
ReplyDeleteI need some more organization in my laundry room.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to paint and add some stylish and functional storage and shelving solutions.

My laundry room needs a total overhaul. The washer and the dryer are ancient.
ReplyDeleteMy washer is held together with duct tape, so a new washer!
ReplyDeleteI would love some kind of continuous ventilation or static system that somehow removes the lint pieces that seem to float around the laundry room.
ReplyDeleteI would love more space to fold and sort clothes. My whole family gets all their clothes mixed up!
ReplyDeleteI would like to have a table top or shelving by my washer and dryer.
ReplyDeleteThe painted concrete block walls have bug and water stains that are just disgusting.
ReplyDeleteCurrently my dryer and washer are not together in the same room. I would like to create one room dedicated just to the laundry.
ReplyDeletemorales_y at yahoo dot com
could use some shelfs and storage containers :D
ReplyDeleteI would love to get a new washer and dryer.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to add some more storage and a hanging bar to help with hanging clothes fresh out of the dryer.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to add a folding table to my laundry room!
ReplyDeleteMy laundry room is just off the garage and the previous owner carpeted the room. I would remove the carpeting. Way too much traffic and tracking stuff in for carpet
ReplyDeleteI could use a place to fold laundry; it's in the back entryway and it shares space with the coat hooks, shoe storage, garage and outside doors, etc.
ReplyDeleteI'd change the fact that it's not an actual laundry "room"--just a washer and dryer in my hallway of my kitchen!
ReplyDeletepittsy82@hotmail.com
I need shelves and or more storage so much. There is no room and most of my washing stuff sits on the floor!

ReplyDeleteI need more room.
ReplyDeleteI love my laundry room at the moment but we are moving next month and the new laundry room definitely needs some renovation.
ReplyDeleteI'd like mine to be brighter!
ReplyDeleteMore storage space.
ReplyDeleteA new gas dryer would be nice! I just try to remember that having a laundry room is a luxury, but maybe a little spruce would make it more enjoyable to be in there.
ReplyDeleteI would like to change the cabinets and shelves in my laundry room
ReplyDeleteI want to make it brighter and cleaner.
