Shaklee 180™ Program Month 6 Update: Final Thoughts {#ShakleeBlogger}

 Shaklee logo
As seems to be the norm with life these days, the past six months of the Shaklee 180™ Program flew by in a blur of events, activities, sports, appointments, playdates and more. How does time always seem to pass by quite so quickly?

Earlier this month I faced my Shaklee 180™ results head-on as I compared my Before and After photographs to truly see what a difference 14 pounds and 14 inches can make. Less chins, less love handles, less... overall.

Except for confidence and smiles, as there are more of those.

So now that I have completed a full half year of Shaklee 180™, what aspects am I taking from it and applying to the rest of my life? Here I am to tell you... as well as a bonus appearance from both Big Sister E and Little Sister B with their thoughts as well:

I made it six months on the Shaklee 180™ program and you can, too! If you'd like to find out more and see if this is the next step for you, connect with them on their website, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Shaklee 180™: The Before and After {#ShakleeBlogger}

As my final month of the Shaklee 180™ blogger program comes to a close, looking back at the past six months puts my emotions through the ringer: happiness and pride are mixed with sadness and regret.

Remember how I started off so extremely motivated and on track to make this the final weight loss program that I would ever need to try?

weight loss inspiration

That first month was undeniably amazing for me, as I lost five pounds in the first week and more than 10 pounds by the end of the month overall. I tracked every calorie, counted every step, and was beyond thrilled at seeing my hard work pay off while I enjoyed each delicious Shaklee 180™ Smoothee, Meal Bar, Snack Bar and more.

The second month followed and, while my weight loss results weren't nearly as amazing, I was still on the right track to losing more pounds and inches (even though I went on two blog trips and did quite a few food reviews that month). But Shaklee 180™ was there to help me! I brought my Meal Bars everywhere to avoid temptation and I blended up my tasty smoothees as often as possible.

By the halfway mark, however, my willpower and determination began to falter. Even though I could talk my motivation up with looking at everything that the Shaklee 180™ program had taught me (and how awesome it was that my belt was far too big), real life began to creep back in. Who has time to count calories? An extra snack or two won't change things all that much, right?

I loved participating in The Color Run during month 4 and of course BlogHer was a blast in month 5, but by then my mind had already dismissed the idea of actually making it to my end goal.

Was that a fault of Shaklee 180™? Absolutely not.

While I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't disappointed that I still have more weight that I'd like to lose even after participating in this great opportunity, I am able to look back at the past six months and know that I'm extremely thankful that I was able to come as far as I did.

Shaklee 180 blogger

Overall, when I look at my complete Shaklee 180™ experience, I am excited to have fallen in love with this program and am look forward to continuing with my morning smoothees. I love waking up and getting to enjoy a fruity, delicious treat that is healthy and nutritious and have no plans of giving that up anytime soon!

Besides, there is also this, which makes me simultaneously cringe and be happy at the same time:

weight loss before and after

No, really. How many chins did I have? And yikes, how long had it been since I saw the sun?

On the one hand, you have no idea how badly I want to delete that Before picture... or at least Photoshop it to remove those love handles and extra chins and just about every other aspect of it.

On the other hand, however, the combination of the Before and After pictures is extremely motivating. Do I ever want to go back six months and add those pounds back onto my frame? Do I want to hang this up so that I see it daily and am inspired to maybe put down that cookie and take a drink of water instead?

Thank you, Shaklee 180™. Thank you.

Shaklee 180™ Program Month 5 Update: BlogHer '13 {#ShakleeBlogger}

 Shaklee logo
With five months down (and only one left to go!) of the Shaklee 180™ Program, I no longer feel as though this is actually a program at all.

I don't wake up and think to myself that I'm doing something out of the ordinary by reaching for my Shaklee 180™ smoothee, it is, in fact, the other way around. If there are days that I am away from home or we are out of milk, I find myself... at a loss. Now what?

While in the past that would have most likely led to overeating, I can now be proud of myself that Shaklee 180™ has taught me how to make (for the most part) healthier choices.

Proven yet again last week while I attended BlogHer.

Chicago skyline

While I adored being able to gallivant around Chicago with some amazing friends that I don't often get to see in person, there was no shortage of high calorie temptations that awaited me in nearly every venue. Appetizers, desserts, drinks, full-fledged meals... coming back after this trip without gaining weight was clearly going to take some major willpower.

Fortunately, increasing my exercise amount wasn't difficult, as traipsing back and forth (and back and forth) across the city increased my typical amount of steps taken each day fivefold.

Fitbit stats

I am fairly certain that I have never walked 7.27 miles in a single day in my entire life.

So although I was still a bit scared to step on the scale after the conference was finally over, all I could do was cross my fingers, take a deep breath, and hope that the number would be pleasantly surprising.

The Importance of Support for Successful Weight Loss {#ShakleeBlogger}

While the past five months as a part of the Shaklee 180™ blogger program have taught me a great deal about myself, my willpower (or lack of it) and what can be accomplished when I put my mind to it, they have also shown me the importance of all of the factors of weight loss.

Just as you're much less likely to lose any pounds if you fill your cupboards with cookies and brownies, you're also not setting yourself up for success if you have no support.

We all know that watching what you eat and getting regular exercise is key, but ignoring the importance of dealing with emotions and the ups and downs that we all go through on a daily basis (and the effect that they will have on our weight loss) is going to make it immensely more difficult to ultimately reach your goal.

exercising with weights

So, where do we turn when it comes to finding just the right emotional support?

1. Family and Friends

The most obvious place to look, those that are close to you are often the first that we turn to when looking for encouragement (just make sure that the people that you are going to for help truly have your best interest in mind).

Being able to share your feelings, frustrations, excitement, irritations, grievances and more through the milestones and setbacks can make a world of difference when it comes to support and keeping the weight loss process in perspective.

2. Your Online Family and Friends

The fact that you're reading this means that you're a part of the digital world and, if you're anything like me, you have a whole slew of friends that you communicate with regularly... just not face to face. But that doesn't mean that you can't pull up an email, start a chat or hop into a message board and find person after person that can give you advice and support.

In fact, being a part of a group or groups of people that are going through the same ups and downs that you are can be one of the most helpful ways to keep your emotions in check. I love seeing what is going on with the other Shaklee 180™ bloggers and knowing that they truly understand my struggles and my joys!

3. Doctors

Of course you always want to check with your health professional before starting a weight loss program, but they can also be of assistance throughout your journey as well.

Whether you find that your excess weight may be a symptom of another problem or your doctor refers you to a dietician who can help you over the hurdles of figuring out what foods you should be eating (as well as those to avoid), your doctor is there to look out for your best interests.

What it comes down to is that no matter who you turn to, finding emotional support can truly help be a motivating factor to continue working towards a healthier you. Weight loss is hard, don't try to tackle it alone!

Shaklee 180™ Program Month 4 Update: The Color Run {#ShakleeBlogger}

 Shaklee logo
It has been four months since I opened my first Shaklee 180™ Turnaround™ Kit, blended up a tasty smoothee, and realized that this was a journey that I was ready to take. Whether it ended with me reaching my goal, getting halfway there, or simply gaining the knowledge that I need to make healthier choices for myself, it was time and I was ready.

What I didn't count on, however, was that the Shaklee 180™ program could truly change my life.

Not just help me shed some pounds or fit into smaller jeans, but that it could take concepts like motivation, getting active and exercise and remove the negative stigma that they have always held in my mind. I'm not one of those people who sets the alarm and gets up early to work out and I'm not someone to willingly ignore the pan of brownies cooling on the stove.

But now, four months later, I find myself feeling... eager to be active. Actually wanting to get up and move and feeling annoyed if I don't fit in a way to get some exercise during the day, leaving my body feeling sluggish and slow.

Who is this person and where did this crazy change come from?

To solidify this change in my thinking, this past weekend Big Sister E and I participated in an event that I would never have thought possible, The Color Run. 5K of running, jogging and walking while being covered with paint? My pre-Shaklee 180™ self would have looked at you like you were out of your mind.

But my post-Shaklee 180™ self? She had a blast.

The Color Run

I'm telling you, those 3.1 miles flew past due to us being so focused on the various paint stations and what color was going to be tossed out on us next. I couldn't believe when we were rounding the last few curves that the finish line was in sight and, shock of all shocks, I could have kept on going much further!

If you've ever wanted a crazy fun way to take up running, I highly recommend visiting TheColorRun.com and seeing if there is going to be a race in your area. It was an experience that we'll never forget and are already planning on attending next year (which, incidentally, is probably about the time that we'll finally get all of the paint off from this year).

Getting Active with the Shaklee 180™ Program {#ShakleeBlogger}

Typically when the warm weather of summer arrives, I'm motivated to...

Well, aside from enjoying the sunshine, not much. Pulling out my sandals, I suppose. Digging past my sweatshirts for my tank tops and making a concerted effort to put sunscreen on my kids more often.

But work out?

Meh. I'm more of an excuses type of person, always coming up with ways that I'm too busy or the kids have to be somewhere or dinner needs to be made — pretty much just that life gets in the way.

This summer, however, is different. Thanks to being a part of the Shaklee 180™ blogger program, I'm not only already happy to have lost weight, but I'm actually motivated to add more activity and overall aim to be healthier. Who would have thought that having a delicious smoothee once or twice a day could have made me want to better myself so much?

strawberry mango smoothie
My current favorite, a Strawberry Mango smoothee (with spinach). Mmmm!

This month I am not only going to marvel at my motivation, I'm going to put it to the test.

That's right, Big Sister E and I (and some friends of ours) are preparing to put on our tennis shoes in two weeks and take on what will surely be a mountain.

The Color Run

Having been recently introduced to the idea of The Color Run, I'm hoping that the crazy chaos of the colors will make the actual 5K run not seem like... well, 5K. For someone that typically gets tired after two minutes of running around in the yard with the kids, running for 3.1 miles is going to be a battle between my willpower and my laziness.

Am I excited? Yes.

Am I scared? Sure am!

Am I thankful to Shaklee 180™ for making me actually want to get up off of my couch and do something incredibly memorable with my daughter that is also going to help in my quest to shed some pounds? Absolutely.

Shaklee 180™ Program Month 3 Weight Loss Update {#ShakleeBlogger}

 Shaklee logo
Three months? It has already been three months since my first Shaklee 180™ Turnaround™ Kit arrived and I blended up my first smoothee? Where has the time gone?

A few weeks ago I pondered about what the Shaklee 180™ program has taught me and, looking back, I'm convinced that the aspect I still need the most help on is #3, Today is always a new day. Just because yesterday was filled with a moment or two (or 10) of weakness, that doesn't mean that today is automatically a total loss, right?

While I would love to say that I lost 10.2 pounds this month like I did in my first month with Shaklee 180™, I have to take responsibility for the fact that I'm not being nearly as diligent now as I was then. Where did the motivation go? Why can I not remember that today is always a new day and that I can just as easily continue to make this program work for me once again?

June is only one day away and right here, right now I'm choosing to focus on the possibilities of what the fourth month of this weight loss program can bring (instead of my usual pessimistic I'm gonna fail anyway way of thinking). Back once again, here I am owning up to my choices and remembering just how lucky I am to be a part of the Shaklee 180™ blogger program in the first place:

Three Things That the Shaklee 180™ Program Has Taught Me {#ShakleeBlogger}

It has now been 2½ months since I dove headfirst into the the Shaklee 180™ blogger program and, as the days pass one by one, I can honestly say that incorporating my Shaklee 180™ Turnaround™ Kit into my regular, daily routine hasn't been all that difficult.

Quite a few of my weekday mornings are spent in a hectic, half-asleep, rushed daze, so whipping up a smoothee to drink in the car (or, when I'm even shorter on time, I just grab a meal bar) is one less thing for me to worry about.

Similarly, when lunchtime rolls around, there's a good chance that I'm still tackling the majority of things on my to-do list, so eliminating the wonder over what to eat at that time is always welcome. What can I say except that Shaklee 180™ has become a part of my life and that I love it? It's just that easy and tasty!

healthy smoothie
Mmmm, nice and green, just how I like it!

Along with all of the healthy and practical things that the Shaklee 180™ diet plan has taught me (e.g. eating lots of calories will not result in weight loss. Crazy idea, right?), this month I was challenged to list three other positive things that I've learned from being a part of the Shaklee blogger program.

Well, gee. Where to even begin?

While I probably could have listed a dozen or two things that Shaklee 180™ has taught me, these three came immediately to mind:

1. Even if I don't notice the small changes, other people might.

You know how a friend or family member sees your kid for the first time in a while and Whoa! Look at how you've grown! conversations are bound to happen? And that you agree, knowing that your child has actually gotten taller, but that they really don't look all that different simply because you see them seven days a week?

I see myself in the mirror Every. Single. Day. So while I might see a difference in how clothes fit or that my love handles suddenly don't have their own love handles, it can often be difficult to really think that I've lost any weight or inches.

Which is why it's all the more fulfilling and gratifying when another of the mom volunteers (who only sees me once a week) in one of my girls' classes studies me for a few seconds and asks, Are you losing weight? You're losing weight! or when my mom sees me on Skype for the first time in a while and firmly declares, Your face looks so much thinner!

2. I do have what it takes to walk that extra mile. Or four.

While my lack of willpower and general bad choices when it comes to sweets or portion sizes haven't all been cured by Shaklee 180™, there have been days in these past 11 weeks that the program has inspired me to push myself a little further than I would have thought possible — both figuratively and literally.

To start, the voice in my head, that voice that always tells me that I'm going to fail at this, hasn't been left to its own devices as usual. Instead, my mind has a response or comeback, and can often convince myself that I don't truly need to eat that chocolate bar or those chips.

As if that isn't enough, my inner desire to push myself further with exercise has been on the rise as well. While it isn't uncommon to walk to and from Big Sister E's school (it is only a few blocks away), I was inspired to walk to pick up Little Sister B from preschool last week... a walk that I estimated was two miles round-trip.

Imagine my surprise when I later used an online map to discover that it was more than two miles in each direction (which would explain how tired my legs were), which, when added to the rest of the walking for the day, ended with me reaching more steps in a single day than I ever had before. What's even crazier is that I'm actually looking forward to doing it all again someday soon.

3. Today is always a new day.

This one is quite difficult for me, as it is something that I struggle with in pretty much all areas of my life: letting go. Moving on. Not holding a grudge. Forgiveness.

No matter how awesome the Shaklee Turnaround™ plan is, I know that I'm going to make mistakes. I know that I'm going to cheat or not be able to resist the desserts or just plain eat junk... that's all a given. But getting over it, accepting it and moving on still confident that another day can get me another step closer to my goal is a big change from my usual mindset.

(Bonus) 4. I need a new belt.

This one was a bit large when I bought it in the first place, but I've long moved from using the actual holes to using the ones that are there for decorative purposes... and it's just not working out.

There is always far too much belt hanging off the end and the grommets, which aren't meant to be used, are falling off left and right. Shopping time, Baby!

belt too big

As I'm nearing the halfway mark in my Shaklee 180™ journey, I'm focusing on the fact that I am also just about halfway to my weight loss goal. I'm learning to eat better, make different choices and look for inspiration and motivation around me each and every day.

Month 2 Weight Loss Results from the Shaklee 180™ Program {#ShakleeBlogger}

 Shaklee logo
May 1st marked the two month mark since I embarked on the Shaklee 180™ blogger program and I can't believe that this much time has already passed.

Was it only two short months ago that I was wearing a larger size clothes and feeling utterly in despair over my lack of willpower and the helplessness that washed over me when I tried to convince myself that I could achieve any sort of weight loss on my own?

Fortunately, there have now been three Shaklee 180™ Turnaround™ Kits that have shown up at my front door and, as I pop the tops on my new set of smoothee mixes and meal bars, I find myself just as excited about them as I was on day 1.

Shaklee 180 Turnaround Kit

So... am I still happy with the program? Am I sticking with it? Was the second month as easy as the first? (If you read my post last week about all of the eating out and desserts I had throughout April, then you already know the answer to that one.)

Once again, my friends, here I am... using not quite as many hand gestures as last month but still too many facial expressions, giving you those answers myself. Please ignore my uncombed hair and just appreciate that at least I showered for you.

Wherein I Blame Blogging For My Waistline {#ShakleeBlogger}

If you missed my announcement last month (or my video a few weeks ago), my life has prominently been changed since joining the Shaklee 180™ blogger program.

The Energizing Tea, Smoothee Mix, and Meal and Snack Bars ensure that this is not only a meal replacement program, but a clinically tested, breakthrough approach to weight loss. These products are not only designed to boost my metabolism, they are also going to help retain muscle and remove belly fat at the same time!

It has been eight weeks since I vowed to turn my weight loss woes around and, believe it or not, I am still just as enthralled with these smoothees as I was at the very beginning.

Shaklee 180 fruit smoothee
Seriously, the Hamilton Beach Single-Serve Blender is my favorite single-size blender ever!

As well as the HUGE variety of flavors and recipes that I've tried, I have to admit that I also still love the concept of mixing up a quick meal right in my blender. For someone who has no willpower and will go overboard clearing my plate simply because it is there, drinking my breakfast (and often my lunch) actually comes as a relief.

No pacing around the kitchen wondering what I'm going to have, no measuring out perfect serving sizes of cereal or oatmeal or pasta, no stress over what is going to tempt me when I open the refrigerator, just reach for my Shaklee 180™ and know that my body is getting everything it needs.

But while I have been able to withstand most of the temptations that my family has provided these past eight weeks, I've come to realize that my biggest challenge seems to be blogging.

When every one of those food reviews are posted, I've had to eat all of the deliciousness for myself, right?

pizza recipes

How can I tell you that Totino's Party Pizza, the Mezzaluna Ravioli at Olive Garden and Pesto Pizza made with Pillsbury Artisan Pizza Crust are rich and delicious without devouring them for myself?

Don't even get me started on the Carrot Cupcakes. I'm too ashamed to tell you how many of them I ended up eating myself, even though the kids did their best to help out.

As well as my reviews, as calorie-laden as they were, my biggest eating challenges this month have been eating away from home. If you read my post on visiting the Step2 Headquarters recently, then you saw a glimpse of the incredible meals that they fed us morning, noon and night.

gourmet meals

Of course I had packed a bag with my Shaklee 180™ Meal and Snack Bars, but was there any way that I was going to pull one out and eat it instead of plates that looked like these?

Sigh.

As if Step2 wasn't generous enough with all of their delicious meals, while you're reading this, I'm in Lancaster, PA at the Auntie Anne's Headquarters.

That's right, Auntie Anne's, home of the most decadent, handcrafted, freshly-baked pretzels around. Let's just say that when they sent the invitation, they included this line to give me a hint at just how many of these pretzels we would be eating: "Bring your taste buds and stretchy pants."

Auntie Anne's

Am I slightly frightened to get on the scale at the end of this month to see what the results are from April?

Most definitely.

However, am I still extremely confident that the Shaklee 180™ program is going to help me reach my weight loss goals little by little?

Absolutely.

No matter where I am or what is going on in my life (or the excuses that I come up with to blame my poor eating choices on), Shaklee 180™ is helping me feel better about myself day after day.

Shaklee 180 meal bar

As I said last month, this is the last weight loss program that I hope to try, as I'm determined to get these pounds off and keep them off.

If you're tired of starting over, stop giving up.

Month 1 Weight Loss Success with the Shaklee 180™ Program {#ShakleeBlogger}

On March 1st, I embarked on a journey.

Right away, the Shaklee 180™ blogger program wiped away any worry or skepticism that I had on whether or not I would be able to follow a meal replacement plan and truly lose weight by swapping out two meals a day with a smoothee or meal bar.

With so many options for mixing my smoothees — milk, water, juice, ice, fruits, vegetables and more — there was just no way for me to not fall in love with these delicious, custom options. Was it any wonder that, after only a few days of my Shaklee 180™ Turnaround™ Kit arriving that I would wake up in the morning and be excited to blend up a new variety?

With one month of the program completed already, the looming question is whether or not there are any Shaklee 180™ results to speak of, right?

Well, my friends, here I am in full color, using too many hand gestures and facial expressions, giving you that answer myself:

Starting Over with Weight Loss for the Last Time: The Shaklee 180™ Program {#Shaklee180}

Although there are times when browsing Pinterest simultaneously baffles and impresses me, about a month ago I came across the following image and it jumped out at me so much that I stopped and stared at it for a good 10 minutes.

I apologize to the original source, but of course I didn't repin this at the time and now when I search for it online I find it pretty much everywhere.

It was like someone reached right into my brain, slapped it around a little bit, and said, Here. LOOK AT THIS. THIS IS FOR YOU.

If you're tired of starting over, stop giving up.

When it comes to weight loss, I am so beyond tired of starting over. Having to get inspired enough to make a change, build up my determination, convince myself that it's possible, convince myself that no, really it's possible, cheating on the first day and telling myself that there's always tomorrow, realizing that tomorrow never comes...

I've long come to accept that, when left to my own devices, my willpower just doesn't stand up to all of the temptations that arise. Let's face it, I work from home approximately 15 feet from my refrigerator, so it doesn't take much for me to find myself digging around in there (as well as the cupboards) until I find something to snack on.

Unfortunately, all of my giving up has led me to a place where I'm unhappy with the reflection in the mirror. I look at her and all I see are the extra pounds spilling over from pretty much everywhere. How did she let herself go like this?

If you're tired of starting over, stop giving up.

This time, as I start over, it is going to be the last time. No more giving up, no more getting back to feeling this way. One week ago, on March 1st, I embarked on a new journey that I am confident will not only succeed but will succeed for good.

Shaklee 180

Being notified that I was selected to join the Shaklee 180™ blogger program couldn't have come at a better time. My disgust with myself was at an all-time high (as were the numbers on the scale) along with my feelings of despair and hopelessness. How could I even begin this uphill climb on my own if I didn't believe it was possible?

However, after following along with the Shaklee Cinch bloggers in 2012, I had seen just how successful the program had been for many of them. The pounds gone! The inches lost! If these bloggers using Shaklee could experience such incredible results in 6 months, then I was motivated to bring on the Shaklee 180™ and turn my Before into an After.

Shaklee 180 Turnaround Kit

Including things like Energizing Tea, Smoothee Mix, and Meal and Snack Bars, Shaklee 180™ is not only a meal replacement program, it is clinically tested, breakthrough approach to weight loss. These products are not only designed to boost my metabolism, they are also going to help retain muscle and remove belly fat at the same time.

Think it all sounds a little far-fetched? To be perfectly honest, there was a small part of me that did, too.

Not necessarily about the specifics behind the products, but about being able to truly follow the plan. I was going to replace breakfast and lunch with Smoothees and Meal Bars, add in a Snack Bar and some Tea and not be completely starving all day long? And let's not forget about the taste, right? Shake powders are often chalky and kind of... well, unappealing.

Shaklee 180 Smoothee

Shaklee 180™ Day 1 began with a simple Strawberry Smoothee and I haven't looked back since.

No exaggerations or stretching of the truth here, I love this program.

Using the Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry Smoothee Mixes, skim milk, ice and a variety of mix-ins, I've tried all sorts of recipes and have loved every single one. Strawberry banana, mixed berry, blueberry, double chocolate, pina colada... I'm telling you, if you're a fan of a rich, luscious shake, these Smoothees will hit the spot.

I go to bed each night excited about waking up to another one in the morning!

If you are a shake or smoothee drinker, I highly recommend the Hamilton Beach Single-Serve Blender, it is fantastic for making shakes or smoothies for one!

In the upcoming months, you'll hear more about my Smoothee creations as well as the Meal Bars, Snack Bars and more. Am I starving? Not in the least. Am I having to cut out everything that tastes good in my life? Not at all. Am I actually losing weight?

Starting weight: Ugh.
Week 1: -5 lbs

Total: -5 lbs

Five pounds gone after one week of eating things that taste like desserts during the day and then paying attention to eating a sensible dinner? Count me in.
