Are there people that don't? The chewy crust, melted cheese, tasty sauce... how can you go wrong?
But what if your absolute favorite pizza suddenly disappeared? That's exactly what happened to David Hlavac, a Minneapolis professional and father of two, when Totino's discontinued their Totino's Mexican Style Party Pizza in 2007 to make room for other Totino's offerings and to focus on its core party pizza line.
Instead of being disappointed and moving on, Hlavac's love for Totino's Mexican Style Party Pizza was so great that he started the Bring Back Totino's Mexican Style Party Pizza Facebook page and generated more than 700 followers.
Together, these devotees shared their passion and determination for the return of their favorite pizza enough that General Mills and Totino's were moved enough to do just that. Surprising Hlavac at work, Totino's announced that they were bringing back Mexican Style Party Pizza for a limited time (March - May, 2013) at select retailers nationwide.
"We never really know how much consumers latch on to one brand or flavor until it's gone," said Carina Sarbaugh, associate marketing manager for Totino's. "That's what's so wonderful about the power of social media, it gives our consumers a platform to tell us how they feel about our products, and we take that very seriously. We're so happy we could move on this flavor reintroduction given the consumer response, especially for our most loyal fans."
But Totino's didn't just send Hlavac an email or pick up the phone to let him know that all of his hard work had been recognized, they surprised him at work with a Mariachi band, a year's supply of his favorite pizza, $500 in bonus Box Tops for Education for his children's elementary school and other prizes.
"I couldn't believe Totino's was actually paying attention," said Hlavac. "What's more, they actually went through the process of bringing a product back because a group of us were asking for it. I'm impressed, and now with a year's supply, I can rest easy for awhile."
That's a whole lot of pizza!
Totino's Mexican Style Party Pizza includes a crisp crust with taco seasoned chicken and beef pizza toppings including green peppers, onions and cheese toppings. While my family was ready to try this unique combination, we found that unfortunately it isn't available in our area just yet.
However, once we found the Totino's Party Pizzas in the frozen food aisle, we were still ready to have our own mini pizza party!
After a quick preheat and around 12 minutes in the oven, our Triple Cheese Party Pizza came out hot, toasty and smelling amazing.
The kids were thrilled with the small, 10 oz size of this pizza and couldn't wait to dig in! I was initially concerned that I wasn't going to be a big fan, as I tend to prefer thick crust pizzas and this one has more of a thin, crispy crust...
...but one bite had me thinking otherwise! YUM!
I'm not sure how it's possible that I've never tried Totino's Party Pizzas before (or, if I have, that I don't remember them), but I could have sat down and eaten this whole little pizza if it weren't for these two digging in and enjoying so much of it!
Totino's has been serving up quick and fun deliciousness since 1951 and now serves more than 300 million Crisp Crust Party Pizzas every year. I love the idea of cutting these great pizzas into squares and having them as part of the menu at a party, they'd be just right for kids as well as adults!
With a suggested retail price of $1.39 for the 10 oz package, Totino's Party Pizzas come in a wide variety of flavors — Canadian Style Bacon, Classic Pepperoni, Hamburger, Supreme and Triple Meat, just to name a few — and can be found in your grocer's freezer. If you're lucky to have a retailer near you that is carrying the Mexican Party Pizza during this limited time window, be sure to pick one up while you can!
And, thanks to the generosity of Totino's, one person will soon be prepared to have a tasty celebration of their own, because...
One lucky person will win a Totino's Party Pizza Prize Pack*!
