Fun in the Sun #6: The Citadel Eco-Friendly Castle from Green Town Toys {Review & Giveaway}

Green Town Toys{This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, Linda!}

At some point there must be an age that children reach when they stop being amazed and thrilled by cardboard boxes, right? I, for one, don't see a box and feel the extreme desire to examine it, push it around, climb inside and then attempt to come up with new ways to play with it.

But maybe that's just me?

As for my kids, cardboard is fantastic. It's wonderful! It's the best thing ever! Forget whatever toy that came inside, they just want to play with the box.

Eventually though, the flimsy cardboard rips or the bottom falls out or the girls realize that, in fact, they can put their creativity towards something that isn't just a box.

But... what if it isn't? What happens when one of the market leaders in innovative and eco-friendly corrugated products designs and manufactures children’s products that turn cardboard into something imaginative, innovative and amazingly fun? That's just what Green Town Toys want you to find out!

cardboard playhouseWith an extensive in-house manufacturing capability, Green Town Toys is able to ensure prompt delivery, competitive pricing, and unparalleled customer service when it comes to their sustainable, entertaining products.

Designed and manufactured in the U.S.A., these aren't just large boxes with window holes cut out, these are 100% recyclable kid-focused and eco-friendly structures that are built, decorated, and enjoyed for quite some time.

When The Citadel arrived, we were all pretty eager to see how a pile of corrugated cardboard could turn into something that would provide hours of endless fun all summer long.

eco-friendly toysAt first glance I have to admit that I was slightly concerned that the assembly process was going to be a bit complicated. However, after browsing through the well-labeled, easy-to-follow instructions that Green Town Toy had sent, I realized that the series of notches and slots really all fit together like puzzle pieces.

After around a half hour, I hadn't used a single tool but had slid all of the pieces into place and had securely latched every wall or tower...

...and we stepped back to find 54.5" x 54.5" of The Citadel just calling out to come and play.

Available in kraft or white, the details that Green Town Toys put into The Citadel are easily evident and impressive. From the windows to the towers to the walkways that connect them, everywhere I looked there was another aspect that I hadn't seen before made out of this durable, sturdy cardboard.

Big Sister E and Little Sister B couldn't wait to try it out immediately!

There is more than enough room for both of them inside The Citadel and, in fact, it could easily hold another friend or two as well.

But along with how cool they thought it was to have their very own castle, the blank canvas of the vast expanse of white walls make this a toy that continues to change and bring new excitement each day.

We have drawn with crayons and markers...

We have painted...

And much more. We've added stickers, chalk, glued-on paper... there really isn't much that you can't do to decorate a toy like this.

Both girls love to hang out in The Citadel and do anything from make up elaborate adventures about princesses and knights...

(This particular tale involved a dragon and police officer who were friends)

...to just hanging out with a pile of books. It's like combining a toy, an art project, a stage, and a playhouse all in one!

The Citadel can also be collapsed down for easy storage simply by removing the walkways and floors in the towers and folding the entire thing in on itself. This way, if you need more space or just want to move it out for a while, you don't have to worry about figuring out how to deal with something so large.

In addition, when The Citadel (or any of Green Town Toys' products) has finally seen its last day, you'll know that all adhesives and inks used are water-based, non-toxic, and 100% recyclable. The entire thing can just go straight into the recycle bin! However, due to how well-made and strong that these are, I have a feeling that it will hold up to quite a bit more play around here before that happens.

Retailing for $44.79, The Citadel can be purchased directly from Green Town Toys and makes a wonderful summer toy to continually entertain time and time again. Want an even better deal? Enter the coupon code celebratesummer and receive free shipping on your purchase of any of these amazing toys!

And, thanks to their generosity, one person will be able to see just how much fun pretend play in a castle can be, because...

Burger King's New Chicken Tenders {Review & $10 Crown Card Giveaway - 5 winners!}

Burger King{This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, Teresa, Susan M. Heim, dfraley3, wildcat32 and ruthhill74!}

When it comes time for a meal around here, I seem to find myself staring aimlessly into the cupboard or refrigerator far too often. What is there to make that we haven't eaten the day before?

Combine those thoughts with the ones that go through my head when my family is out running errands and crabbiness from hunger starts to set in... and that leads to the occasional trip to a drive-through or stop in to a fast food restaurant for a quick and easy break.

It doesn't happen too often, but the times that it does I want to be sure that there is something for everyone to munch on and that we're all going to leave full and happy. And that's what we know we can find at Burger King, particularly with the introduction of their new Chicken Tenders.

chicken tendersFounded in 1954, Burger King is a global, quick-service restaurant chain with over 12,100 locations in 76 countries that serves more than 11.4 million people daily. That's a lot of burgers! And now, also a lot of Chicken Tenders.

Waiting for a day that fit in our schedule, when we finally pulled into BK, our stomachs were growling and we were ready to see the infamous Chicken Tenders in person. We couldn't pass up a time to come visit the King, right?

Burger KingTaking a look at the menu, we found the new Chicken Tenders in a 4-piece meal on the BK Value Menu for just $1, an 8-piece pack for $1.99 and a 20-pack for $4.99.

As Burger King is known for allowing customers to "Have it your way," we also found that they came with a choice of six different dipping sauces - buffalo, barbecue, zesty, sweet and sour, honey mustard or ranch.

BK Chicken TendersHaving selected the 8-piece Chicken Tenders, we sat down at the table a few minutes later and both kids were eagerly grabbing at the crispy meal. Considering that Big Sister E typically won't even touch meat of any kind, these Chicken Tenders must really have looked appealing for her to want to give them a try!

kids chickenThe consensus was good! The new Chicken Tenders proved to be seasoned and crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. A great meal option for adults and kids alike, these are quick, affordable, and portable, making them great for a sit-down or fast meal on the go.

Leaving Burger King with full bellies and crowns on our heads, we found that we had been able to easily feed the entire family extremely inexpensively and be happily on our way. It was definitely a successful trip!

Have you stopped by BK recently to try out their tasty new Chicken Tenders? Thanks to their generosity, five people will be prepared to do just that, because...

Five lucky people will win a $10 Burger King Crown gift card!

Nutrisystem {Week 22} Spa Style

Nutrisystem BloggersHappy Memorial Day! While so many families are getting together for picnics and barbecues today, my husband and I are extremely fortunate that my in-laws are coming over and staying with the kids while we hop in the car and drive about an hour away to stay here:

The exact location doesn't particularly matter, but what does is that it's an Inn & Spa and it's lovely. If I want to go hang out in the pool and not be splashed or give someone a noodle to play with, then I can do just that.

When I'm done with that, I can head to the spa and really relax with something like this:

Except, what? That doesn't even look all that relaxing to me. What is that? And why is it dripping on her head? Wouldn't that just be annoying?

So no, I'll skip that one. Instead, I can actually just head to my own room and hang out doing something much more my style like this:

No having to add more bubbles or referee over who's turn it is with the Elmo tub toys, just... ahhh.

In the morning the plan is for me to sleep in and wake up whenever I'm done sleeping. Not from the sound of someone small demanding breakfast or too much light streaming in my windows (due to the lack of curtains, of course), but just whenever I'm ready.

Pure bliss.

So where does Nutrisystem fit into all of this? Well, it doesn't. This is going to be yet another week where I'm tested as to how much I've learned and what kind of choices I make when we go out to dinner or get up and find a fresh buffet breakfast awaiting us.

If you had asked me last week if I thought I would have problems, I would have said no. After returning from Reviewer's Retreat and managing to have not gained weight, I was considering myself an A+ Nutrisystem student.

This past week started off well, but somewhere around mid-week or so I seemed to fall off of the wagon a bit and I found myself eating things I shouldn't or snacking on things that weren't all that healthy. The weekend was even worse as we went out to eat twice and the second time I left with the Oh, I feel sick from eating too much feeling that I used to have quite often before joining the Nutrisystem Nation.

These things happen, I suppose. I'm extremely excited about getting away for the day to spend some relaxing time with my husband, so I'm going to just have to trust that giving my mind a rest will also lead to making better decisions this week with what I eat.

Hoping that the scale wouldn't give me something to dwell on during my mini-vacation, this morning I found...

Nutrisystem NationPrevious loss: 22.0 lbs

This week: -0 lbs

Total loss: 22.0 lbs

Definitely not a surprise there and, in fact, I should be pretty darn thrilled that the scale didn't show that I gained weight. Hopefully next week the numbers will go back to getting smaller! But for now, I've got relaxing to do. Have a great day with your family!

Remington Smooth & Silky Electric Shaver Collection {Review}

Remington logoThere are so many great things that come along with the arrival of spring (sunshine, flowers, farmers' markets, and playing in the sprinkler, just to name a few) but there are also a few aspects that I don't look forward to.

High up on that list is that my days of hiding my legs under long pants are numbered and suddenly my Why bother shaving? No one is going to see them way of thinking has to be put on hold for a while.

I'm not the only one who is lazy about shaving her legs, right? I'd like them to be consistently hair-free, I just don't like the time and hassle that goes into it. Fortunately, this spring Remington has made it easier to be ready for shorts and swimsuits with the introduction of three new women's electric shavers in their Smooth & Silky collection.

women's electric shaversFeaturing dual foils for closer skin contact, a revolutionary hypoallergenic cutting system to combat irritation, and Curve Flex Technology (a contour-following trimmer system with a protective guard that effectively trims long hairs and reduces skin irritation), these new shavers make having a flawless, ready-to-be-seen body an easy possibility.

When the Smooth & Silky Battery-Operated Shaver arrived, I was ready to see what kind of great results it could provide.

Remington shaverPowered by two AAA batteries (which came included), I immediately appreciated the lack of a cord and the wet/dry technology that gives this shaver the ability to be used either in or out of the shower. Considering my laziness, this added convenience is great for ensuring that I can get my legs smooth and hair-free with less time spent.

Checking out the pivoting blades, I was impressed with the way that this shaver really does seem to glide over my skin no matter if I'm applying a large or small amount of pressure. Instead of spending time with shaving cream and having to worry about pulls, nicks, and cuts, the flexibility of the blades results in fast and more painless work.

electric shaverThe addition of the bikini trimmer headguard is great for safety and I appreciate the inclusion of the flexible trimmer along the top as well for when my legs have been left a little too long.

For cleaning purposes, it is easy to rinse this shaver with water. However, I do also really like the cleaning brush that Remington included so that I can quickly dust off any tiny stray hairs.

bikini trimmerFitting comfortably in my hand, I have enjoyed being able to have smooth and silky legs so quickly with the Remington Smooth & Silky Battery Operated Shaver.

Instead of dreading having to shave, this razor has proven to give good results while being extremely easy to use anytime and anywhere. I'm definitely ready for shorts and swimsuits this season and it might even make it more likely that I keep up with the smoothness when long pants return in the fall!

Retailing for an affordable $14.99 or so, this shaver, as well as the rest of the Remington Smooth & Silky collection, are available for purchase at Walmart, Target or online. You can also stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest from Remington by connecting with them on Facebook and their Shave & Groom Twitter or Haircare Twitter accounts.

(Other than the Smooth & Silky Battery Operated Shaver that I received from Remington to facilitate my review, I was not provided with anything or enticed to do this review in any way. This review is solely my opinion of this company and their products.)

Gardening: What do I need to know?

Every year I say that the kids and I are going to start a garden, even just a small one, and every year it doesn't seem to happen. Why is that?

I don't plan on turning our yard into a farm, but I know that the girls would be interested in helping plant and grow (and eat) their own vegetables. So what is it that seems to always stand in our way?

Mainly time, of course, but I do have to admit that when I think of a garden, I think of putting some seeds in the ground and making sure that they're watered. But then I read articles about hydroponics and aeroponics and see pictures of other families using growing lights and special food... and I get a little intimidated.

I want to just toss a few little green plants in the ground, pull out some weeds now and again and end up with something like this:

Maybe I just have a skewed idea of what gardening entails and it is much more of a time commitment than I think it is. Am I wrong? Do you garden with your kids? How much time does it really take?

Shoes for Spring: pediped footwear's 2011 Collection {Review}

pediped logoOne of the things that I consistently look forward to with the arrival of spring is sandals. Being able to pack away the winter boots and pull out easy-to-wear, comfortable, warm weather shoes just has a way of making me happy each year.

But it's not only my own feet that are excited about the change in footwear, my kids are also big fans of the comfort, style, and versatility that goes along with summer sandals... and when it comes to the children's shoes that we know and love, we always turn to pediped footwear.

pediped footwearThe unparalleled quality, durability and distinctive fashionable styles - with new ones being added all the time - from pediped are perfect for everything from casual to dressy occasions. No matter what age or stage of development your child is in, from infant to age 7, pediped has a pair of shoes that will keep their feet safe, healthy and looking good at the same time.

We have long loved all three collections that pediped has to offer and have continued to be impressed time and again. The Originals line of soft-soled infant shoes that mimic barefoot walking for ages 0-24 months garnered compliments for both Big Sister E and Little Sister B when they showed them off in those early months and I couldn't have been happier knowing their developing little feet were protected.

Then there is the Grip ‘n’ Go line, featuring the same benefits as the Originals but with special G2 Technology for active toddlers that are transitioning to walking with a more confident stride. What perfect shoes for those increasingly faster and faster steps of children 9 months - 3 years.

Finally, the Flex collection is the ultimate shoe for confident walkers who have developed a solid, natural stride. Little Sister B was fortunate to be the star of a pediped review last fall for a pair of Flex shoes and she still adores and wears them to this day. And now, Big Sister E has had the opportunity to fall in love with a pair of the Flex as well when the Gillian - Light Pink arrived just in time for sandal weather.

These sandals are wonderful! The Memory Foam Technology gives them a custom insole and the all natural leather upper, lining and rubber sole makes them extremely comfortable. With the Velcro top and back strap, we have been able to adjust the Gillian for a personalized, perfect fit!

And, even though we were already clearly impressed with pediped before, the new Spring/Summer 2011 collection has now made its debut and it is nothing short of amazing. This collection is their largest and most innovative to date featuring more than 75 new styles across all three lines of their footwear in pediped's signature comfortable fit and with a broadened color palette of bright color combinations on trend for Spring and Summer.

Even more innovative, pediped has introduced the new Adventure Line, a unique collection of eco-friendly, machine washable, water-safe shoes. An expansion of the existing Flex footwear, the Adventure Line offers style, protection and comfort both in and out of the water.

These functional, yet stylish shoes includes a natural rubber sole, toe caps and Velcro straps. They are even machine washable and lighter weight and more flexible than other waterproof shoes available on the market. Offered in EU sizes 20-31, the collection features twelve bright colors in two adorable styles: the Nile, a Mary Jane style for girls, and the Amazon, an athletic sandal for both boys and girls.

In addition to the debut of the exciting Spring/Summer 2011 collection, this year pediped has launched the pediped foundation to support children's causes. Since the company’s inception, they have been committed to bettering the lives of children and to date nearly $1,000,000 in cash and product donations has been donated to children's charities.

The establishment of the pediped foundation has helped foster even more ways for pediped to give back to those in need and just has a way of making already-amazing and adorable shoes even a little cuter, doesn't it?

But wait! There's more! pediped is continuing their tradition of giving back this Memorial Day by honoring military families with a "Buy a Pair to Give a Pair" event to benefit Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit that provides emergency financial and other assistance to families of our service members and wounded warriors.

For each pair of shoes sold from their website from May 24 through midnight on May 31, pediped will donate a pair of shoes to Operation Homefront to distribute directly to those families in need. Not only do you end up with a fantastic pair of shoes, but so will another child - what a great way to celebrate Memorial Day!

pediped footwear and the adorable Spring/Summer 2011 collection is now available online and in select retail stores. Be sure to also connect with pediped on Twitter and Facebook for news of special promotions, new products, and more.

(Other than the information and Gillian shoes that I received from pediped footwear to facilitate my review, I was not provided with anything or enticed to do this review in any way. This review is solely my opinion of this company and their amazing footwear.)

Affordable Eyewear at 39DollarGlasses.com {Review & Giveaway}

39DollarGlasses{This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, kenziesmum!}

Recently Big Sister E's preschool offered an optional eye exam for the students and I didn't hesitate to immediately sign her up. With the poor eyesight that both my husband and I have, we figure that it's really only a matter of time before a teacher calls us in or we see her squinting off into the distance.

When that day comes, it will be time to turn to the wide world of glasses to find her a pair that are not only trendy and fashionable enough for her style but that are also extremely safe and durable.

And, as I'm continually on the hunt for the best deal, the idea of spending a fortune on eyeglasses for my child (or me, for that matter) isn't one that I like to entertain. Instead, I turn to the internet, of course, and look to the newest site that I have found that offers selection, style, and glasses delivery right to your front door at a huge savings: 39DollarGlasses.com.

glasses glassesOwned and operated by two eye doctors, 39DollarGlasses.com was developed to create an inexpensive method for people to acquire high-quality, finished prescription eyeglasses. By allowing people to bypass expensive retail establishments, customers are able to receive high-quality materials and products but also take advantage of the savings that 39DollarGlasses.com can pass on.

As I began to browse through the extremely large selection of glasses offered, right away I appreciated the way that 39DollarGlasses.com makeskids glasses it easy to navigate precisely to the category that you need. Whether you are shopping for metal eyeglasses, bifocals, kids' eyeglasses or much more, they've got them all laid out and only a click away.

With the amount of time that we will be spending outside this summer, I was really pleased to turn my sights to 39DollarGlasses.com's variety of prescription sunglasses. Considering that I wear my glasses almost 100% of the time, I have always wanted a pair of sunglasses that wouldn't require me to dig out my contact lenses to wear.

prescription sunglassesWith hundreds of choices to pick from, it took me a while but I finally narrowed it down to my favorite, the Ferrere Sunglasses, as the shape and style reminds me of the glasses that I wear daily.

Available in black/lime or burgundy, going through the process of placing my order couldn't have been easier. 39DollarGlasses.com lists the size, width and height measurements, so I could see that this frame was a good choice for my face, which was great. They even offer a SmartFit tool that allows you to choose between a variety of face shapes to have a model virtually try the glasses on for a sense of how they will look when worn.

I had a good time playing around with the various frame/lens color combinations available as well...

colored sunglassesI had a novelty pair of sunglasses with yellow lenses when I was a kid. I thought they were so cool.

After entering in my prescription and placing my order, I sat back to wait on the arrival of my new sunglasses and, hopefully with them, some sunshine.

Only a short time later (as well as their usual fast turnaround time, 39DollarGlasses.com even offers next-day glasses for a fee in case you have an emergency), I received my package and couldn't wait to put these frames to use.

I was impressed then and I'm impressed now! Arriving with a soft pouch, a hard case, and a cleaning cloth, these sunglasses were exactly what I was looking for. They retail for $58.95 but look just as nice as those that cost hundreds more in the store or at the doctor's office.

In fact, as 39DollarGlasses.com's glasses are completely American-made (as opposed to importing them in from China like other sites), the quality is even higher than quite a few that I have seen. Looking at them inside, I was concerned that the grey lenses that I had chosen didn't seem like they were that tinted, but when I put them on outside they did a perfect job of keeping the sun away.

I couldn't be happier with my experience with 39DollarGlasses.com and the stylish, comfortable, high quality prescription sunglasses that I was sent. There really is no need to spend more when they make it so easy to love your affordable purchase.

Whether you're shopping for eyeglasses for men, women or children, full frames or rimless, classic or unique, 39DollarGlasses.com has a pair for everyone. Their kids' glasses even come standard with features like poly carbonate lenses (the #1 eye doctor recommended lens), UV protection, and scratch resistant coverings because they know the importance of protecting children's eyes.

With a 100% worry-free guarantee and extremely reasonable shipping options (they even ship free to all active service men and women no matter where they are serving), there is just no reason to shop elsewhere for your next pair of glasses. And if 39DollarGlasses.com's already-reasonable prices aren't low enough for you, how about a discount? Enter the coupon code TMC211 and receive 10% off of your order!
