Bing: Our School Needs {Contest}

When people ask me the classic "What do you do?" question, I tell them how fortunate I am to be able to stay at home with my kids. However, whenever education or my pre-mom life comes up and I am asked about my college major (Elementary Education), that inevitably leads into a discussion about teaching and what an important and meaningful job that is - and just how much of a difference it makes in the lives of so many children.

So how sad is it that budget cuts around the country are forcing students to go without programs and teachers to either adapt their plans or use their own money to purchase the necessary supplies? Even though my daughters aren't in school just yet, I have already done all that Big Sister E's preschool has asked in order to help out because I know that even at this young age that her schooling is going to make a life-long impact on her and the way she relates to education.

What else is there that parents and students can do to help out their school? It's not like someone is just going to give them money just because they ask, right? Well, actually...

Fortunately, there are companies out there like Bing who believe in supporting kids' education and want to help teachers and students by providing them with supplies and the financial support needed to ensure a successful learning experience. By potentially giving away over $1 million dollars in conjunction with their "Our School Needs" campaign, Bing.com is taking entries from elementary, middle and high schools to submit a request for what their school needs most.

Through photos, essays and videos, teachers and students can enter on behalf of their school (students under 18 will need a parent/guardian or teacher to submit their entry for them) from now until October 22, 2010. With $50,000 prizes given out to three age group categories (K-6, 7-9 and 10-12), there will also be one grand prize winning school that will receive $100,000! Just think of the supplies that could be bought with that!

To find out more about the contest and submit an entry, visit www.bing.com/ourschoolneeds and take a minute to watch this video explaining the submission process. And then what are you waiting for? A quick 500-800 word essay, 3 to 5 photos and an optional 3-minute video could result in $100,000 for your child's school!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Bing and received a DonorsChoose.org giving code and gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

I agree, the budget cuts and how they are affecting teachers and students is very sad. I think it's great what Bing is doing!

Also, how cool that you majored in Elementary Education! That was one of my majors too. :)
