Heelys: The shoes with wheels that are not just for kids! {Review}

Heelys logoYou've seen the kids zooming down the sidewalk, haven't you? Or they've caught your eye zipping past you in store aisles, right? You know the ones, they're the kids that aren't just walking, they're skating. Because what cool kid wants to walk when they can roll?

That's exactly what Heelys thinks and that's why their shoes with wheels are the original, incomparable, most-fun-you've-had-with-footwear that all kids know and love. However, they're not just for kids anymore and with sizes from youth all the way up to adult, moms and dads everywhere can now get in on the skating action!

Heelys shoesGiving users the ability to transition from a walk to a roll by shifting the weight to their heels... or to transform Heelys into street shoes by removing the wheels, this is one brand of footwear that is extremely unique. How could I pass up the chance to get to try them out for myself?

When a box of Heelys HX2 in the Jazzy style arrived, I was ready to head out for a roll!

Heelys Jazzy reviewAt first glance upon pulling these cute black and white shoes out of the box, they appeared... well, to look like pretty much any other pair of tennis shoes.

Heelys Jazzy reviewTurning them over, however, revealed their secret transformation into skate shoes.

Heelys wheelsChanging my Heelys from shoes to skates took only a minute or two and I loved that the instructions were printed right inside the box.

Heelys instructionsNo screwdrivers, no setting aside an afternoon for assembly, simply use the provided removal tool to pop out the heel plugs...

Heelys...and align the wheels into their slots.

HeelysApplying pressure, the wheels snap into place without problem and you're ready to go! To change back to shoes later on, all that is needed is to push down and out on the wheels to remove them from the pressure-fitting bracket and then replace the heel plugs.

But when it comes to wheeling away, these sure are fun! I chose the HX2 style of Heelys not only for the classic look, but because this design has two removable wheels in each shoe (regular Heelys only have one), making them ideal for younger kids as well as beginners.

Having not been on skates for years (a decade, at least. Am I that old?) I liked the idea that the double wheels would make it easier to maintain balance... not to mention that if (when?) I become a Heelys pro in the future, I have the option of only installing one wheel and it will be like I've had a traditional pair of Heelys all along!

For now, I was ready to head out and get used to being able to stroll and roll with two wheels. I love the clean, sleek, well-made look of the Jazzy Heelys...

Heelys review...and how the wheels stay well-hidden when not being used. I don't think I would wear these shoes around when I wasn't planning on rolling, as the wheels are there under your feet, but when it comes to skating, all that is required is to tip your balance back and you're ready to roll.

Heelys reviewSo, they look good. Let's see these kicks in action then, right?

I'm got a ways to go to being considered coordinated on my Heelys, but that just means I need more practice! Considering how much fun I've had rolling around inside as well as outdoors, I have no doubt that I'll be doing spins and turns and all sorts of other tricks in the future... right? I have to get it all in now before my kids get old enough to be too embarrassed of me!

Heelys reviewRetailing for $60 from Heelys (or $49.99 on Amazon), these Heelys HX2 are sure to bring a little laughter and a whole lot of fun to your life as well. With the holidays right around the corner, now is the time to add them to your wishlist or pick up a pair for the child in your life who has been wanting them as well.

Even better, Heelys is throwing a Black Friday special! Between November 25 - 28, buy any pair of Heelys, get the second pair for $25. Or buy a Nano (a really cool inline footboard so that you can really perform tricks) and get a pair of shoes for $25, and get free ground shipping on all orders!

Are you ready to give shoes with wheels a try? Visit the Heelys website for more information and to see all of their great styles, and be sure to connect with them on Facebook and Twitter as well.

(Other than the HX2 Jazzy shoes that I was sent from Heelys, I was not provided with anything or enticed to do this review in any way. This review is solely my opinion of this fun footwear.)

I never did learn how to skate and I'm so uncoordinated. I can just see myself falling over. LOL!

The kids that wear them always look like they are having fun though.

Look at you mama, wheeling around all pro and stuff. If that was me I'd fall right now hehe. You did a great job! Gavyn has been asking for a pair so we'll see.

Oh my gosh, you are ADORABLE with your cute little rolling shoes. I honestly didn't know they made them for adult feet. This is awesome news!
