For Work, Play and Sport: SOL REPUBLIC Relays In-Ear Headphones {Review & Giveaway}

Sol Republic Logo
Of all of my memories from elementary school, one that always sticks out in my mind is the way that I liked to listen to music on my Walkman during the morning bus ride. Still in my sleepy daze, I'd unwind my headphones and zone out listening to In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel on my cherished cassette to get ready to start the day.

These days my tastes have changed some (although I still love that song) and my Walkman has long been retired in favor of an mp3 player or, more likely, my phone. And, in the same way that the quality and reliability of the source of my tunes has improved, so has the way that I make sure to reach for headphones that will provide crystal clear sound and amazing comfort no matter if I'm exercising, talking on a call, mowing the lawn or simply sitting back to relax.

Which is why I'm most often reaching for the style, durability and quality found in the new Relays in-ear headphones from SOL REPUBLIC.

Sol Republic RELAYS

A global consumer electronics company dedicated to enhancing people's lives through style, sound and technology, SOL REPUBLIC develops its products from the ground up to look, sound and feel unlike anything else in the market.

Therefore, in their continued commitment to change the world one listener at a time, SOL REPUBLIC has recently debuted Relays, the first cross-over headphone that has the ability to keep up with anyone's active life. These in-ear Relays not only offer the benefits of a sports headphone, but their stylish look makes them completely versatile and the only headphone you'll need throughout the day.

Considering that everything mentioned about Relays made them sound like a perfect holiday gift, I knew that I needed to see them in person to give them a try.

Right out of the box I was impressed with not only the clean lines and classic design of the Relays but the way that these in-ear headphones come with a variety of ear tips so that you can select the perfect ones to fit your ears (as well as a carrying case to keep them protected when not in use).

Sol Republic Relays accessories

Plus, like all other SOL REPUBLIC in-ear headphones, Relays are part of their exclusive "Ear Tips for Life" program in which SOL REPUBLIC will replace your ear tips anytime they are lost, misplaced or if you simply want a different size (they are the only manufacturer that offers this).

Once you've picked and attached the most comfortable ear tips from the four sets, all that is left to do is snugly place the Relays into each ear (they are even labeled L and R for zero confusion).

Sol Republic RELAYS review

VoilĂ ! Due to SOL REPUBLIC’s exclusive patent-pending FreeFlex technology, Relays are able to offer a secure, universal fit that is evident immediately. While I am used to dealing with a bit of adjusting and replacing to get earbuds to feel as though they are in the "correct" place, the Relays nestle into my ear comfortably and securely right away.

Add to that the way that Relays are extremely lightweight and that their low-profile design doesn't wiggle or move around and it's easy to see why these can go from work to play to sport with ease.

At the same time, there is no worry about wearing Relays out into the elements (or while working up a sweat), as they are water and sweat resistant and have a clip-on cable that ensures it won't get caught or bounce around.

Or, going from working out to conference call? Relays keep up with the easily accessible mic and phone control, letting you seamlessly stay in touch. At the same time, adjusting volume or switching tracks is easy and always within reach.

SOL REPUBLIC Relays features

All in all, I've been extremely impressed with the comfort, fit and feel of these Relays, the convenience that they provide for all aspects of a busy life, and the overall amazing clarity and sound that can come from something so small.

Whereas I typically think of large, bulky headphones when I think of big sound, Relays' new I5 Sound Engine manages to deliver full sound with balance and details that bring out the best in any type of music. Who doesn't want to pump up the bass every now and again?

The offering of recipes provide an all important part in my holiday this year. Being injured in an accident has set my finances quite different then when I was able to work. An the recipe mentioned here is part of what I would consider an amazing giveaway - as it will be the start of several items I need to aid me after being diagnosed with the medical condition resulting from the accident! While there are many items from a laptop, printer or even a computer desk... which would offer me the items I need to make my life much easier!
