New Play-Doh Plus, the Softer, Fluffier Compound {Review & Giveaway}

While I love seeing the new toys that debut on the market, I'm also a huge fan of seeing the classic, loved-for-years toys modernized and revived in the new millennium.

Add more actions, levels and commands to Bop It! and you've got Bop It! XT. Throw in an iPad, a fun-filled app, and all kinds of virtual choices and The Game of Life is transformed into The Game of Life zAPPed Edition.

One product that I was sure would never change, however, is Play-Doh. Is there a way to improve on the modeling compound that has proven to be a beloved toy for children all over the world since it was introduced in 1956?

There is now, with the creation of Play-Doh Plus.

Recently debuting a new soft, fluffier compound called Play-Doh Plus, Play-Doh has made it possible for little artists to mold with greater detail – cupcake frosting looks real and ice cream looks as though it might melt right in your hands.

Considering that my kids both love Play-Doh and love to pretend to cook, I knew that they would be excited about the possibility of testing out this fun way to creatively build and form with the new Sweet Shop Frosting Fun Bakery Playset and Variety 8-Pack of Play-Doh Plus.

Pulling the many parts of the Frosting Fun Bakery out of the box, I was immediately pleased to see that Play-Doh had included so many pieces to make this a completely playset.

From the mini containers of Play-Doh Plus to the extensive number of shape creators to the knife, fork and plate, this is definitely a bakery waiting to happen!

Using the clear and simple instructions, it was only a minute or two before I had all of the pieces snapped into place and we were ready to start baking.

Just as Hasbro had claimed, we noticed a difference in the new Play-Doh Plus as soon as we opened the containers. This new compound is definitely softer and easier to mold, feeling almost like actual dough in our hands.

Little Sister B in particular couldn't wait to start turning all of the bright colors into a variety of different cakes, cupcakes, cookies and more!

She got right to work stamping out different cake creations...

...and decorating them with different tips, designs, colors and more.

We got a kick out of the turntable, allowing us to turn our cake and decorate along the edges, while Little Sister B was extremely pleased with being able to display her creations on the cake stand covered with a clear dome just like in a real bakery.

From the creating to the decorating to the individual little decorations that were added on top...

...this playset and the Variety Pack of eight additional Play-Doh Plus colors has provided ongoing creativity, laughter and entertainment time and time again.

While the resulting mess of "crumbs" is the same as it has always been, I do think that Play-Doh Plus proved easier to use and manipulate for little hands. How can you not have fun when it's so easy to imagine, mold and form so many cheerful desserts over and over?
