Curious George {A Very Monkey Christmas Review & Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey Giveaway}

{This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, DB!}

With Christmas only days away, families across the country are gearing up for the big day. Whether the main event in your household is church, a big meal, opening presents or just being together, there are so many aspects of the day to look forward to.

And, for Curious George fans out there, there is one more reason to be excited about Christmas... the fact that Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas airs on December 25 on PSB KIDS! What better way to bring some extra joy and laughter to the holiday than to spend it with everyone's favorite mischievous monkey?

When we first hearing mentions last year that Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas was going to premiere on PBS KIDS, we couldn't have been more excited. Big Sister E has remained a huge Curious George fan from the beginning and, not to be left out, Little Sister B has quite the attachment to him as well. Just seeing the regular episodes on television can stop them in their tracks, so turn things into a full movie and they are definitely happy.

I have to admit that even I have a fondness for the fuzzy little monkey and can't help but want to see what mischief he gets himself in and out of each time. I love the fact that the show is completely appropriate for children, always has a positive moral and the TV episodes even have a real-life science, math or engineering lesson or activity at the end that show how kids can take away the educational aspects each time.

If you haven't seen A Very Monkey Christmas, it's 58 minutes of merriment - monkey style. Following George and The Man with the Yellow Hat as they prepare for Christmas, the story begins with the duo enjoying Christmas preparations such as picking and decorating a tree, making a Christmas list and figuring out the perfect gifts for one another.

However, they soon encounter a big dilemma: neither can figure out what to give the other for a present. George draws a list, but The Man doesn't know how to decipher what the geometric shapes represent and, all the while, George has ideas about what The Man in the Yellow Hat might enjoy, but when he attempts to make them something always goes wrong.

As Christmas approaches, George and The Man get more and more distraught and end up following each other around town, hoping to discover a clue as to what the other would like to find under the tree. But it seems that even Hundley, the Pisghettis, Gnocchi, Bill, Betsy, Steven and Professor Wiseman can't help and The Man in the Yellow Hat begins to wonder if life for George would be better off with someone else who understands him better.

Falling into a fitful sleep, The Man has a dream in which the Ghost of Time Going Sideways helps him to realize just how important he and George are to one another... and also allows him to see the answer to what George's Christmas wish list has been pointing to all along. At the same time, George thinks of a homemade art gift that ends up meaning more to The Man than anything else could have and the true spirit of Christmas is displayed.

With the colorful animation, engaging plot, catchy music, great length and overall message about the true meaning of Christmas and gift-giving, I have no doubt that we will be celebrating the holidays with Curious George all throughout the year. It's just that fun!
