Sometimes I feel old in that I'm not keeping up with the latest fads for kids (I know who Justin Bieber is, isn't that enough?) but it's hard when there seem to be so many characters, both real and animated, that come and go. For me to take notice, it has to be someone or something that catches my own girls' attention enough that they ask for it by name.
Which, now that the hit Playhouse Disney television series, Timmy Time, has launched on DVD, has become more possible than before.
Available now for the first time from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment, Timmy Time: Timmy Steals the Show is 45 minutes of cute and humorous barnyard fun that 2- to 5-year-olds are sure to enjoy.
From the Academy Award-winning creators of Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, fans will recognize the antics of the lovable preschooler, Timmy, from his role in the successful Shaun the Sheep franchise. Even though we haven't seen a tremendous amount of the show, my kids have both always thought Timmy and his adventures have been tons of fun.
Plus, unlike almost all other preschool shows, Timmy Time doesn’t utter a single word of dialogue - something that I can definitely appreciate. The first time we watched this DVD was during a long car ride and having complete silence except for the sounds of a hoot, cluck, bark, mew, oink, quack and bleat made me like Timmy even more than I did before.
Even though this endearing new character and his barnyard of animal friends don't talk, they still manage to translate their antics, sentiments and lessons with ease. Whether it’s putting on a talent show, making new friends, dancing to his own beat or discovering the importance of apologizing, Timmy has a lot to learn and the slapstick humor and classic silent comedy are not only fun but easy to relate to for kids.
The five lovable tales included on this DVD feature everything from Timmy performing groovy dance moves to genuine acts of kindness to learning the true meaning of saying I'm sorry.
First, in Timmy Steals the Show, the diva Yabba loses her voice while bossing everyone around during rehearsals for the nursery's talent show. Crestfallen that she may not be able to perform, Timmy saves the day for Yabba by performing for her.
Next, in Timmy's Picnic, the class is off on a picnic but during a game of soccer the ball bursts on Apricot's spikes. Apricot feels guilty that the little animals no longer have a ball to play with, but soon finds a good use for her prickly spikes - picking up the picnic litter!
In Timmy Brings a Smile, Apricot has brought her favorite blanket to the nursery and doesn't want to let it go. But when she briefly puts it down, the other animals mistake it for a rag which they use to clean up paint and mud. Timmy tries to console Apricot with substitutes until he discovers a pleasant surprise in Stripey's sand pile.
Then, in Timmy Can't Dance, Harriet and Osbourne lead the class through exploration of various dance styles, from hula dancing to line dancing. But Timmy just cannot get into the groove and soon discovers a passion for hip-hop music and is able to wow his friends with his break-dancing moves.
Finally, in Timmy Says Sorry, Timmy accidentally kicks a soccer ball through the preschool window. After a time-out, he tries to be more careful but ends up knocking down Otus' sandcastle with a careless kick of the ball. After much soul-searching, Timmy realizes it's not enough to just say sorry, you have to show that you're sorry, too.
With each story following a day in the life of Timmy and his pals learning about camaraderie and the trial and error aspects of life, I'm happy that my kids can enjoy learning some valuable lessons through such a cute, kid-friendly DVD. Retailing for $14.98, we can even take things off-screen and visit the new Timmy Time website to see clips from the show, downloads, fun games and more.
Also, one person will soon be introduced to the antics of Timmy as well (or become even more familiar with him if there are already Timmy Time fans in their life), because...
