Miele S2 Olympus Canister Vacuum {Review}

Vacuum-Direct.com logoOnce upon a time, my carpet was clean.

And stayed that way for longer than 20 minutes.

But now that there are two kids running around, I'm pretty sure that unless one of two things happens, a clean carpet just isn't possible: either we stop eating meals in our house, which is fairly unlikely, or I turn into a vacuum fanatic.

I really didn't think that there was much chance of the latter happening either, but then, that was before I was introduced to Vacuum-Direct.com and the durable, reliable, easy to use, versatile and extremely high quality Miele S2 Olympus Canister 2120 Vacuum.

As I wasn't familiar with the Miele name before, I wasn't quite sure to expect when the Olympus arrived. As I opened and unpacked the box, I appreciated that each of the various parts were individually tucked into the box for protection... and was amazed that it seemed like there were so many of them.

Miele Olympus review
With a combination of common sense and a few flips through the manual, it wasn't long before I was marveling at the incredible number of features that the Miele Olympus Vacuum includes and and just how much of my house it could clean.

For something so small, lightweight and almost dainty-looking, the amount of power in such a compact package was starting to convert me into a vacuum fanatic right from the start.

Pretty impressive stuff, right?

The Miele Olympus really is the perfect combination of lightweight, powerful, easy to use, versatile, and convenient. Instead of pushing around a heavy, bulky upright, I'm able to just have this cute little white canister zipping along next to me while the hose and wand suck up dirt, dust and debris from every imaginable surface.

The 29.5' operating radius allows me to plug the Olympus in to an outlet in one room and keep on going until I find myself in a different part of the house... while the quiet sound that this makes means I don't have to deal with my kids running away with their hands over their ears or worry about vacuuming during nap time (assuming I'd be crazy enough to spend their nap time vacuuming).

Each feature that Miele included is well thought-out and located just where the user needs it. Things like the telescopic wand...

...and the way that the floor brush can be changed to safely vacuum on hard surfaces with the flick of one switch...

...make using the Miele Olympus a dream.

I also really appreciate the six different suction options that this vacuum offers, so that selecting the one right for your flooring, furniture or upholstery gives you a custom result each time. Simply turn the dial to the correct symbol and you're on your way:

I added the meanings next to each one to show the wide variety of surfaces that this is made for!

Can't get much easier than that, right?

Considering how light and easy this is to use, I have yet to find an area of my house that the Olympus hasn't been able to clean - that wand can reach anywhere! From carpet to wood to tile to reaching into tight corners and crevices with the tools, I haven't worried about scratches or not being able to get every last bit of dirt.

Along with all of the physical features, Miele is known for really making a difference in the quality of your indoor air. Instead of allowing dust back into the air while you're vacuuming, their Super Air Clean filter system captures 99.95% of particles down to 0.5 micron in size and 94% of particles down to 0.3 particles in size.

For anyone who has allergies or just works to keep the environment of their home as clean as possible, this is an important aspect. When I mentioned to a friend of mine that I had begun using a Miele, she immediately began to rave about having one to help with her and her family's breathing!

Miele S2 Olympus Canister S2120 review
As this was my first introduction to the Miele brand, I can say that I'm very impressed with this line. Retailing for $299 from Vacuum-Direct.com, there are three other models in the S2 series and they all look to be just as high quality and remarkable.

Instead of having multiple vacuums (one for upstairs, one for downstairs, one handheld for small spaces, etc) the Olympus has taken over all of the cleaning duties and has been outperforming them all. With a long list of optional accessories available, all that's left to do is decide which wand or brush would be the most helpful in making this great machine even better!

To find out much more about Miele, the S2 Series, the Olympus and many other high quality cleaning machines, visit Vacuum-Direct.com on the web as well as on Twitter and Facebook.

(Other than the Miele S2 Olympus Canister S2120 vacuum that I was provided by Vacuum-Direct.com, I was not compensated or enticed or to do this review in any way. This review is solely my honest opinion of this vacuum cleaner and this company and their products.)

I need that floor brush! Lol! I vacuum every other day if not everyday. Like you said, with kids there's no escaping that. I would love to have a vacuum like this!

This was an AMAZING review. I love that it's not very noisy so I can vacuum during nap time! ;)

WOW! It's funny that I stumbled upon your review for the Miele. I was talking to one of my neighbor's yesterday and she told me she recently purchased a Miele. She said a friend of her's raved about it and she's always heard great things about the brand so she bought one. I have never heard of Miele before. Yesterday she mentioned the name and today I read your great review. How weird is that?

Sounds like a great vacuum. If I didn't just get a brand new vacuum I'd certainly look into this one.

I'm a Miele nut, so it was fun to read your take on the entry level model. One thing you might want to consider is upgrading the exhaust filter to a HEPA filter. It virtually eliminates dust altogether from the vacuuming process -- one of the benefits to using a Miele.
