Celebrating Mom #5: Home Improvements with ATG Stores {Review & $100 Gift Certificate Giveaway}

Similar to the way that I knew my wedding dress was the one from the first time I tried it on, I knew that we were going to purchase this house from the first time we took a walk through it. It just felt... right.

Of course the previous owners had done a sly job staging everything well and having soft music playing; I'm pretty sure there were even nice-smelling candles around to complete the irresistible package. But that didn't matter, I still couldn't wait to move in after the closing date had come and gone.

With their personal items out, it became time to put our own stamp on things... which allowed me to look at what was left (colors, lighting, etc) to see if it was actually our style. Some things? Not too bad. Others? Not exactly.

Our house is contemporary and modern, with clean lines... and we're in the Midwest. This fan would be great in a home on a coast, something decorated with a beach theme where the seashell detailing wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. But in here? It just doesn't go.

The combination of the curved blades and the brushed pewter not only grabbed my attention, but the fact that the Oceanbreeze CF42 included a dome light sealed the deal. As our current fan didn't have a light, it was something that was definitely lacking and I knew would make a difference that we would enjoy.

Thanks to the fast shipping of ATG Stores, this ceiling fan arrived quickly... much to the dismay of my husband. As neither of us are very handy when it comes to household tasks, he was fully prepared to not attempt to put this up for as long as possible.

However, after I was able to sit back and survey the pieces and instructions, I had confidence that, as long as we turned off the electricity, even us novices would be able to handle this project.

Although there was a time or two that I scratched my head at the manual, we were able to successfully (and quite proudly, I'd say) remove the old fan and get the new one hooked up in its place. After an estimated two hours, I was able to look up at something that finally matches the rest of our decor.

This ceiling fan has already been great! The light has been a welcome addition and the choice between the three speeds and two directions is very convenient. Even better, Canarm includes a remote control with this fan to ensure that if I want to enjoy a cool breeze this summer that I can do so without having to get up out of my chair.
