Dr Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham and Other Stories DVD {Review}

While there will always be thousands upon thousands of children's book authors, it isn't hard to name off the classic favorites. Are there kids that grow up without knowing Eric Carle or Shel Silverstein? I hope not.

But even if there are children that aren't familiar with The Hungry Caterpillar or Where the Sidewalk Ends, I would find it awfully hard to believe that anyone could make it through childhood without knowing and loving Dr. Seuss.

Quite simply the most beloved children's book author of all time, Theodor "Seuss" Geisel wrote and illustrated 44 books that have found their way into homes and hearts around the world.

And while we have thoroughly enjoyed our time spent over the years with Dr. Seuss books, it only adds to the excitement when we can bring them home as a collection of our favorite animated stories... which is what we have done with the release of Dr Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham and Other Stories Deluxe Edition on Blu-ray and DVD.

Available from Warner Home Video for the first time today, June 26, 2012, Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham and Other Stories Deluxe Edition is comprised of three classics, including Green Eggs and Ham, The Sneetches and The Zax. All three have been re-mastered for this deluxe edition, which is available in a standard DVD edition and in a Blu-ray combo pack that includes both a Blu-ray and DVD edition.

"Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham and Other Stories Deluxe Edition brings some of Dr. Seuss's finest literary work to life. We are delighted to offer these remarkable animated stories to consumers in a fully re-mastered, deluxe edition," said Mary Ellen Thomas, Vice President Family & Animation Marketing and Partner Brands.

She added, "Each of these stories impart several valuable moral lessons such as the importance of having an open mind, accepting those around you without being judgmental, learning to be flexible and much more. It's the perfect DVD for kids because they’ll walk away not only having been entertained but also having learned something meaningful."

When this Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack arrived, my kids took one look at Sam-I-Am on the cover and were clamoring to watch the laughs and lessons of the book come to life.

Dr. Seuss DVD

Beginning with Green Eggs and Ham, we were excited to join Sam-I-Am and his persistent attempts at introducing a reluctant fellow to a most delectable dish. Their escapades took them across a zany landscape while assembling a cast of characters that only the imagination of Dr. Seuss could bring to life. Will Sam-I-Am convince his new friend to take a chance and finally try something new? I think we all know how this timeless tale ends up!

Next, we met The Sneetches, who taught us that being yourself is the best way to fit in as the star-bellied Sneetches and their plain-bellied counterparts learn a lesson about the folly of judging others based solely on appearance.

Finally, the tales concluded with the story of The Zax reminding us that there is nothing to gain from being stubborn as two fellows' extreme stubbornness inhibits any forward motion. In all, this 25-minute animated program featured bright colors, clear sound and a format that held true to the original special.

Dr. Seuss's timeless themes of acceptance and the willingness to try new things ring just as true today as they did decades ago when they were written. But, most important of all, is the fact that children young and old, as well as their parents and grandparents, can come together to thoroughly enjoy these Dr. Seuss classics. Our only complaint was that 25 minutes wasn't enough and we were left wanting more!

Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham and Other Stories Deluxe Edition also includes four bonus interactive online puzzles. The Blu-ray DVD Combo Pack edition retails for $24.98 (or $19.93 on Amazon) and the standard DVD edition retails for $19.97 (or $15.93 on Amazon). If you have young (or old!) Dr. Seuss fans in your life, this collection of stories is sure to be a great addition to your home library.

(Other than the Dr. Seuss Blu-ray DVD Combo Pack I was provided by Warner Home Video, I was not compensated or enticed to do this review in any way. This review is solely my honest opinion of this great collection of tales.)
