She and her friends (and Ken, of course) had all sorts of imaginative adventures that took them near, far and anywhere in between. I can remember getting lost in the world of Barbie, spending hours changing her clothes and brushing her hair — she's an icon!
And while the Barbie: Dolls of the World collection has been around for years (it is the largest and longest-running series in Barbie Collector history), it is now giving the new generation of Barbie fans a glamorous new global line that makes me wish I was 8 again!
As the Barbie doll is loved around the world, this collection returns the love with Barbie dressed in her own ancestral dress from various countries. The 2012 Dolls of the World come from all four corners of the earth, including classic countries represented by China Barbie Doll and Ireland Barbie Doll, the popular Australia Barbie Doll, and series newcomer, Argentina Barbie Doll.
Knowing that my girls would be happy to welcome a Barbie from a distant land to our house, we were all pretty excited when an Ireland Barbie Doll came to stay.
We were immediately taken with the way that Ireland Barbie arrived in her own special travel carrying case (which resembled a suitcase) and came with a special pet and passport. We couldn't wait to remove her from the box to get a closer look!
Displaying her heritage well, the Barbie: Dolls of the World Collection Ireland Doll arrived wearing a traditional green dress with laced bodice, short white puffy sleeves and golden trim. Her shoes, long red hair and Irish Setter puppy added the finishing touches to the theme and really gave her the classic Barbie look but with an Irish twist.
It was hard to not just gaze at all of the little details that went into making this doll special!
The girls were instantly drawn to Ireland Barbie and began immediately discussing the places she had been and the cuteness of her dog. While they have included her in a variety of pretend play tales, the favorite activity seems to always be brushing her long hair with the provided toy brush.
As I can recall plenty of Barbie hair-brushing from when I was a child, it always makes me laugh when I see both girls acting so serious about it!
Along with the fun of Ireland Barbie and her native-inspired ensemble, an entertaining bonus to the new Barbie: Dolls of the World collection is the addition of the online world. Here girls can play virtual games with Barbie, learn fun facts about each country and collect passport stamps as they travel around the world.
We checked out the website and I was happy to see that it was educational as well as fun to hear how to say Hello in various languages, see the clothing from that country, print coloring and activity pages, and more. I have to admit that I found myself really getting into the games as well!

I like the additional online component, and the red hair is fun because that's unusual on a Barbie. I'd probably choose Ireland just for that!
My sister collected Barbies so we saw these in the magazine she gets. The girls both wanted the Australian Barbie. They all look neat and I love that online education component!
