With Earth Day right around the corner (April 22nd), people are getting ready to show their support for our environment by doing things like walking instead of driving or buying local instead of items that have to be shipped long distances.

Just in time for the holiday this year, 3M has made it possible to take eco-friendly one stop further with their launch of Scotch Greener Masking Tapes. Made with 56% renewable resources, these DIY essentials are a great way to help you reduce waste and conserve paper without giving up performance.

Designed to provide the same great performance as other Scotch Masking Tapes, Scotch Greener Masking Tapes create less waste and conserve paper resources at the same time. Of the 56% renewable resources that they are created from, that includes paper backing made with 30% post consumer recycled content and adhesive made with natural, regenerating latex harvested from rubber trees.

These innovative tapes are manufactured using solvent-free and water-based processes, while the tape core contains 87% post-consumer recycled fiber and the shipping cartons are made with 100% recycled fiber. How much more green can you get?

"We know consumers are concerned about the environmental impact of their everyday choices, including their choice in masking tapes," said Michaela Toohey, 3M marketing manager. "Commitment to sustainability is an important part of our culture at 3M, and has been for many years. We're proud to offer new greener masking tapes that provide great performance and lessen environmental impacts."

As painting projects continue to be the #1 home improvement project among DIY enthusiasts, the new Scotch Greener Masking Tapes will provide DIYers and professional paint contractors with a more environmentally sustainable choice for painting and other household or school uses. These tapes can also be used towards LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification credits for green building projects.

Scotch Greener Masking Tapes are available in two varieties: Scotch Greener Masking Tape for Basic Painting 2025 and Scotch Greener Masking Tape for Performance Painting 2050, each with varying levels of adhesion and surfaces for use:

Scotch Greener Masking Tape for Basic Painting #2025

Created as the basic painting tape, this version features high adhesion and is ideal for use on surfaces such as non-damageable vinyl, carpet and wood. It has a 3-day removal period.

Scotch Greener Masking Tape for Performance Painting #2050

The performance painting tape features a thicker backing and medium-high adhesion, making it a good choice for woodwork, wood cabinets and trim. Household and school uses include crafting projects, labeling, and other general use indoors. It offers a 5-day removal period.

I love everything companies do to go green. Now if we could get more people to purchase them, we'd be headed in the right track!
